Non-Warblers Ohio 13th May 2014

The two highlights of the day were the two female American Woodcock incubating eggs in the car park. Both were completely habituated to the dozen of admirers only metres away. The other highlight was a very out of place Henslow's Sparrow. These are nearly always a strict grassland species so to find one feeding amongst the leaf litter in a wet woodland was very odd to say the least! It was a very warm day with temperatures reaching 32 degrees Celsius / 90 Fahrenheit. It was a little too much for both the incubating American Woodcock and an Irish birder!

Ohio Warblers 13th May 2014

Some more pictures from that amazing spot of Magee Marsh. The warblers were still present in great quality and quantity. Also had a quick visit to Metzger Marsh but it was relatively quiet, a few warblers out at the woodlot. The wetlands in Ohio and Michigan proved to be quiet enough with most usually just having Red-winged Blackbirds, Great Egrets, Great Blue Herons and usually not a whole lot else. A few heavy showers in the afternoon resulted in a heavy and immediate exodus of birders cars from the car park at Magee Marsh. Anyway enjoy the warblers below.
