YBW's Inishmore Oct 2014

The only real other highlight from the week on Inishmore were these two Yellow-browed Warblers found over the last two days of my stay. Hugh Delaney found one in the Willows up at Bun Gabhla on Thursday evening. This spot is one of the last significant patches of decent cover on the extreme West end of the island and has always been a reliable spot for Yellow-broweds over the years. I had up to six birds in the immediate area here in October 2007.
I then found a second bird on Friday morning in Kilmurvey Woods. I think this may have been the first time I've come across one actually inside the wood itself. Had this bird not been calling it would have proved very difficult to pick up in the first place. Kilmurvey Wood is easily the largest patch of cover on the island after Kilronan but surprisingly has produced few birds considering its size if you exclude such birds as Olive-backed Pipit, Yellow-rumped Warbler and Red-breasted Flycatcher that is! As I said if stuff does end up in the middle of the wood it could prove difficult to dig out which probably explains the relatively short list of good birds that have been found in there. More birds have been found outside the main wood here in isolated Sycamores, shrub and fields here i.e. Eastern Kingbird, Woodchat Shrike, Yellow-browed Warbler, two Barred Warbler, Ring Ouzel and this years Tree Pipit.
